Shengtao's OEM CNC turned alloy steel pins begin as solid bar stock and are machined to your exact dimensional, mechanical, and surface finish requirements on CNC turning centers. After turning, pins requiring tight diameter tolerance or superior surface finish pass through centerless grinding, which delivers diameter accuracy to ±0.005 mm, roundness within 0.003 mm, and a surface roughness of Ra 0.4–0.8 µm — the level of precision required for locating pins used in high-repeatability fixtures and for dowel pins that must press-fit reliably into reamed holes without galling or excessive assembly force.
The alloy steel grades we work with are selected to match the pin's mechanical duty. 4140 (42CrMo4) is our most frequently specified grade: after quench and temper to 28–40 HRC it delivers an excellent balance of strength, toughness, and wear resistance suitable for pivot pins, clevis pins, and general locating pins. For larger-diameter pins where through-hardening depth is a concern, 4340 offers higher hardenability and is tempered to 35–45 HRC. When a pin needs a hard, wear-resistant surface but must absorb impact without fracturing — shear pins and heavy-equipment pivot pins — we use 8620 (20CrMnTi) with case carburizing to 58–62 HRC at the surface while retaining a tough ductile core. For pins subject to rolling contact or high surface stress, such as bearing needles and precision dowel pins, EN31 (52100) bearing steel through-hardened to 58–64 HRC provides maximum surface durability.
We produce pins in every common configuration: straight cylindrical, stepped with multiple diameters on one axis, headed with hex/round/flat/special heads, grooved for retaining rings or O-rings, taper pins for locking applications, threaded pins with external or internal threads, and shoulder pins (stripper bolts). Surface treatments — zinc plating, zinc-nickel alloy, black oxide, phosphating, or hard chrome — are applied to match the operating environment.
